Millersville, Pa. — With the 2008-09 academic and athletic schedules in the books, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) announced that 102 Millersville student-athletes were named PSAC Scholar-Athletes on Monday afternoon.
Millersville, which sponsors 22 intercollegiate sports, also boasted 102 PSAC Scholar-Athletes during the 2007-08 academic and athletic year.
The men's and women's track and field/cross country teams had the most scholar-athletes, with the women having 15, and the men 13. Women's soccer had nine scholar-athletes, while women's swimming had eight. Football and field hockey each had seven student-athletes earn recognition.
To be eligible for the scholar-athlete awards, student-athletes must earn at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average while competing in an intercollegiate varsity sport. Among all of the PSAC institutions, 1,859 scholar-athletes earned the distinction of PSAC Scholar-Athlete, up from 1,488 last year. Gannon and Mercyhurst both joined the PSAC and helped bump up the number of recognized student-athletes. Each scholar-athlete will be awarded a certificate of distinction.
