Smith Named Women's Volleyball Interim Head Coach

Millersville, Pa. – After serving a one-year stint as assistant coach, Brian Smith has been named interim head coach of the Millersville women’s volleyball team for the 2010 season.

Smith, a 1987 graduate of Millersville, inherits a team that posted a 15-26 overall record in 2009. The young squad has two players returning but there are only three juniors and no seniors.

Prior to returning to his alma mater, Smith spent three years as a coach with the LAVA club volleyball team. He has also been the club director for the last two years. He spent the 2008 season as an assistant coach at nearby Franklin & Marshall.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Smith coached the junior varsity team at Lancaster Mennonite High School for three years. He is also a board member in the Keystone Region and serves as a USAV official.

From 1991-93, Smith was a member of the All-Marine Corps Volleyball Team while he spent time in the United States Marine Corps. He also played at the USAV AA, A, and B levels for 14 years.

The 2010 season will be Millersville’s 20th season competing in the PSAC. The program boast six PSAC Eastern Division titles in its short history.
