Jamal Smith tied a school record with four touchdown catches in Saturday's 41-35 double overtime win over Kutztown. For his efforts, he was tabbed as the PSAC Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week Sunday.
Smith's four TD effort tied Kevin Cannon's school record that was set in 1995. Smith finished the game with five catches for 133 yards and totaled 256 all-purpose yards. All four of his touchdowns were from at least 23-yards out, and his 52-yard score on the first series of the game was the team's longest pass play of the season.
Smith not only scored the game's first touchdown, but he gave the Marauders an early edge in the first overtime by hauling in a 25-yard touchdown pass.
In addition to his five grabs, he totaled five rushes for 28 yards and returned four kicks for an average of 23.5 yards per return.
After Saturday's performance, he ranks among the PSAC's elite in several categories. He ranks second in all-purpose yards with an average of 121.4 yards per game. His 4.56 receptions per game ranks eighth, and he is also ranks eighth in receiving yards per game (67.1) and fourth in points with 66.
Smith is Millersville's first player to win PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week since Cardoza Jacks on Oct. 12, 2008.
With Saturday's victory, the Marauders improved to 3-6 overall. They look for consecutive victories when they visit East Stroudsurg on Oct. 31.
