Lock Haven, Pa. – Upon conclusion to the 2009 season, four Marauders were named to the 2009 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division Field Hockey Team, released Wednesday, Nov. 4 by the PSAC.
Named to the first team were seniors
Meredith Dolinger, as a midfielder, and
Krista Bupp, as a defender. They are the first Marauders since 1999 to earn first team honors. Freshmen standouts
Melissa McCarthy, a midfielder, and
Maria Thompson, a defender, were named All-PSAC East Second Team. It is the first since 1998 that four Millersville players were named to the postseason list.
Dolinger, who was named to the All-PSAC East second team last season, started all 19 games for the Marauders and finished with one goal and two assists on the year. Bupp earned the first team honor despite missing five games with an injury. She totaled one assist and five goals this season, two of which came from the squad’s only penalty strokes, but impressed opposing coaches with her outstanding defensive play.
McCarthy started every game this year, recording four goals and one assist. Thompson, another 19-game starter, was a stalwart on defense, helping goalkeepers
Sara Dickinson and
Keily Doehring record five shutouts this season.
Under second year head coach
Shelly Behrens, the Marauders finished 9-10 overall and ranked 10th in Division II.
