12/1/2009 2:34:55 PM | Baseball
Millersville, Pa. - Third-year head baseball coach Jon Shehan is delighted to announce that the 2010-11 recruitment class is complete with 10 student-athletes committed to play baseball at Millersville University in 2011. The players in this class are so deep in talent they are expected to contribute as freshmen.
“There is talent from top to bottom,” said Shehan “This is the best class I have ever had.”
The class includes highly touted pitchers Tyler Reed of Cedar Crest and Tim Mayza of Upper Perkiomen, whose fastballs consistently reach in the mid-80's. Also included is third baseman and closer Tyler McDonald of Chambersburg who has power and fastball that reaches the high 80's.
In all, there are five right-handed pitchers: Thaddeus Barton of Muhlenburg, Reed, Kurt Seiders of South Western, Boddy Sunkel of Cedar Cliff and Adam Zipko of Warwick. Also, one left-handed pitcher in Mayza, one catcher in Cedar Crest's Ryan Cannistraci, a second baseman in Allentown's Mark Maiorano, one third baseman/closer in McDonald, an outfielder in Bishop Shanahan's Ian Miller.
“What is remarkable about this class is how much ability each of them have,” said Shehan “If they can transfer that ability to the field, nearly all of them could see playing time in 2011.”
The 2011 class should also feature strong chemistry as four of the recruits--Reed, McDonald, Cannistraci and Sunkel--were teammates with the Mid-Penn Aces last year, and Cannistraci and Reed played together at Cedar Crest. All 10 signees attended high school within 120 miles of the university campus.
