Marauder Swimming Collects Several Top Honors

East Stroudsburg, Pa. –
Returning to East Stroudsburg for the second time two weeks, the Millersville women’s swim team garnered an impressive 19 top-five finishes at the East Stroudsburg Invitational Sunday. Freshmen Sarah Bernhardt and Arielle Walbert led the squad in top finishes throughout the meet.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Millersville took third, fifth, and sixth places. Sarah Steinagel, Walbert, Kelsie Jones, and Bernhardt earned third place with a time of 2:00.57. Walbert won the 1,650-yard freestyle race in a time of 18:44.96, followed by Laura Castello, who finished third with a time of 19:48.43.

Bernhardt nabbed fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship qualifying 25.37 seconds. Steinagel came in at eighth with a time of 26.28 seconds with Breann Martinez in 10th with a time 26.73 seconds. Bernhardt also qualified for the conference championships in the 100-yard freestyle, which she won with a time of 54.70. Jones came in close fifth in 57.60.

Jones won the 100-yard backstroke with a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:02.98, followed by Lauren Jendzurski, Sara Keenan, and Caitlin Branaman in seventh, eighth, and 10th places, respectively. Courtney Wallace and Walbert took eighth and 10th place in the 100-yard breaststroke.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Walbert took home second in 2:24.43. Martinez took fifth in 2:32.17 followed by Colleen Wolgast with a time of 2:33.26. Vicky DeTample earned second in the 200 free, swimming it in 2:02.74. Rebecca Irvine took fifth with a time of 2:11.01. Walbert also earned fifth in the 200-yard backstroke, posting a time of 2:19.51.

Amie Mowery took home third in the 500 free in 5:47.19. Marauders nabbed sixth, seventh, and eighth places as well. Jones, Jaeske, Jendzurski, and Christine Neville took home first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:16.15. Millersville relay teams also earned third place while two other teams tied for fifth.

The East Stroudsburg Invitational wraps up regular season meets for Millersville. The PSAC Championships will be held from Feb. 18-21 at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
