Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's basketball team won its third-straight PSAC Eastern Division title this season, and some of the key factors to its success were a trio of seniors and the consistent presence of 20th-year head coach
Mary Fleig. On Tuesday, the coaches of the PSAC acknowledged the Marauders by naming Fleig PSAC East Coach of the Year and seniors
Raquel Green,
Ashley Moyer and
Jenna Craig All-PSAC East.
Fleig, whose last coach of the year award came in 2005, received the honor for a notable sixth time--two more than any other coach in PSAC history regardless of division. Deidre Kane of West Chester and Stan Swank, both in their 23rd seasons, own four awards.
A 23-5 overall record and a 13-1 PSAC mark landed Fleig's team a third-straight PSAC East title and NCAA Tournament berth. She is among the Division II leaders with 369 wins, and boasts nine 20-win seasons.
Green was the lone Marauder named All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team, but Moyer and Craig were named to the second team. It was the first career postseason mention for both Green and Moyer and the second-straight second team appearance for Craig. Despite Millersville's domination of the division in recent years, the program hadn't placed three players on the all-conference team since 2005.
A versatile threat on both ends of the court, Green led Millersville is scoring (11.9 points per game) and blocked shots (42), and was second in rebounding and third in steals. Green also ranked among the PSAC's best in field goal percentage, was fifth in blocked shots and fourth in offensive rebounds. Green also posted six double-doubles.
Moyer provided an outside shooting presence for the Marauders all season, hitting a team-high 48 3-pointers and averaging 8.9 points per game. She enters the NCAA Tournament on a tear, scoring in double-figures in nine of the last 10 games. A leader in the back court, she led the team in minutes played and was clutch late in games, hitting a team-best 75.8 percent from the free throw line.
Over the last two seasons, Craig made a name for herself with rebounding and defense. Craig led the team and ranked ninth in the PSAC in rebounding at 8.2 rebounds per game, and totaled 11 double-figure rebounding efforts on the year. Her 1.0 block per game averaged was 13th-highest in the league. She also chipped in 8.2 points per game.
The three players led a defense that closed the regular season No. 1 in Division II at 50.6 points per game allowed.
