Daniels, W.Va. - The Millersville men's golf team produced the sixth-best second round score of Tuesday's NCAA Atlantic/East Regional and moved four spots up the leaderboard. The Marauders now sit 15 shots out of NCAA Championships qualifying position and must make a final charge on Wednesday.
Led by Nick Magenta's 1-under-par 71, the Marauders totaled a 313 on the day--seven shots better than the first round score. Magenta alone improved his score by 13 shots by recording three birdies to just two bogeys.
Magenta's 71 tied him for low round of the day, and it was the most dramatic turnaround of the tournament. He moved all the way from 94th into a tie for 24th. Shane Henry also bettered his first round score, shooting a 5-over-par 77, tying him with Magenta at 11-over and in 24th place.
Dan Brown turned his game around in the second round, as well. His 9-over-par 81 was seven shots better than his day one score. Matt Dudas stands at 19-over for the tournament and in a tie for 75th after an 84 on Tuesday. Brian Cooper, who was one of just two Marauders to crack 80 on Monday, slipped into a tie for 89th with a disappointing 87.
Entering Wednesday's final round, the Marauders stand in a tie with California (Pa.) and need to move into the top five to qualify for nationals. Concord owns the top spot on in the standings and has an eight-stroke cushion over Indiana (Pa.). Indiana's Gavin Smith held onto his individual lead despite shooting a 1-over-par 73. He is even par for the tournament.
