Fairfield, Conn. - Trailing by two points entering the final bout of Friday's dual with Sacred Heart, Millersville needed a win from heavyweight Bradley Ladd. Ladd delivered his team three points with a decision and its first dual victory of the season, 24-23.

Ladd started quickly, nearly scoring a pin in the first period and then pulled away for a 7-3 win over Paul Schweighardt. The win improved Millersville to 1-5 on the season and dropped Sacred Heart to 1-11. It was the first meeting between the two teams since 2001. Millersville is now 3-0 all-time against the Pioneers.

The Marauders need some late wins to storm from behind. Sacred Heart built an early lead using a forfeit at 125 pounds and a technical fall at 133. Mike Greck picked up Millersville's first points with a 5-0 decision over Anthony Ricco at 141. Steve Hess accepted a forfeit at 149 to close the gap to 11-9.

Sacred Heart, however, totaled nine points at 157 and 165, building the advantage to 20-9 with four matches left. At 174 pounds, Shane Smith continued to build upon his impressive season, pinning Sam Sheppard in just 57 seconds and building his season record to 22-8 in the process. The junior has now won 16 of his last 19 bouts, and 12 of those wins have come by fall.

Sacred Heart rebuilt its lead to 23-15 with a win at 184, but 197-pound freshman Daniel Cox scored a much-needed pin in the third period of his match against Sam Morrison. That set the stage for Ladd's decision.

Millersville travels to New York City to face Columbia Saturday afternoon.
