Lock Haven, Pa. - With eight newcomers and two returning starters, few know exactly what to expect from the Millersville men's basketball team in 2011-12. The PSAC coaches reflected that sentiment and voted the Marauders seventh in the PSAC Eastern Division Preseason Poll, which was released Thursday.

Seventh is just where the Marauders finished last season, and it's an unfamiliar position for a program that has won three PSAC East titles during Coach Fred Thompson's 13 seasons. Millersville narrowly missed on the postseason last year after losing five of the last six league games and going 1-11 on the road.

Thompson sought new energy for his roster and brought in seven transfers to accompany 3-point snipers Mike Seibert and Jim Kelleher, junior Christian Santos, sophomores Jaymes Miller and Anthony Coleman and post players Rob Wyley and Elijah Obade.

The poll placed Millersville ahead of Shippensburg and behind Cheyney, which lost leading scorers Sharif Bray and David Burton. Kutztown and East Stroudsburg both received three first place votes, but it was Kutztown that took the top spot. ESU was followed by Bloomsburg, defending East champs Mansfield and West Chester. Both Mansfield and West Chester received a first-place vote.

In the Western Division, two-time defending PSAC Champion Indiana (Pa.) received six of the eight first-place votes. California (Pa.) was ranked second followed by Gannon, Mercyhurst, Slippery Rock, Clarion, Edinboro and Lock Haven.

Millersville posted a 10-15 overall record with a 5-9 league mark a year ago. Seibert, who averaged 10 points per game and shot 37.6 percent from three, is the top returning scorer. The 6-6 Miller averaged 9.4 points per game on the season but averaged 12.1 against the PSAC East. The 6-5 Wyley and 6-9 Obade split time and combined to average more than 10 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Newcomers include graduate student #C.J. Scott#, who brings veteran leadership at point guard after a career at Louisiana Tech. Guard Larry Grant spent two seasons at Post University before transferring to Millersville. Brandon Brown comes from Gwynedd-Mercy. Earl McClary redshirted during the 2010-11 season at South Carolina-Aiken, and Mickel Orr (Lincoln), Hakeem Anthony (Valley Forge Christian), and Tramaine White (West Liberty) should also factor into the mix.

The Marauders play an exhibition at Duquesne on Nov. 1 and open the regular season at home against Central Penn on Saturday, Nov. 12.
