Lock Haven, Pa. - Dan Johnson and Kurt Seiders were first-year starters in 2012, and the duo more than proved they belonged. On Tuesday, the coaches of the PSAC recognized Johnson and Seiders as All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team. Senior pitcher Brooks Rothschild was also named to the second team.
Johnson made it three of the last five years that a Millersville first baseman was named All-PSAC East. Seiders was the first Marauder freshman since Eric Eckert in 1997 to land first team honors. Rothschild, who was named to the first team in 2011, entered elite company with his second All-PSAC East selection. He joined Timm Bromirski (1998-99) as the only Marauders to be named All-PSAC East in back-to-back seasons as a starting pitcher.
Johnson spent his first two years at Millersville behind all-time hits leader and three-time All-PSAC East honoree Derek Kline. His opportunity finally came, and he delivered a team-high .360 batting average, ranking 13th in the league in hitting. Johnson's .504 slugging percentage and .409 on base percentage were also team highs. His 12 ranked in the top 10 in the PSAC and also led the team. The redshirt sophomore was at his best against the PSAC East, hitting .380 in 24 league games.
Seiders also did his damage against the PSAC East as he emerged into a run producer for the Marauders. He finished the regular season with a .338 average, .408 on base percentage and .441 slugging percentage--all of which ranked second on the team to Johnson. He also ranked second in RBIs with 27, and showed his speed with nine steals and a team-best three triples. His numbers are all the more impressive when considering that he started the season 3-for-24 and was hitting .125 through 10 games. Seiders hit .423 in 24 games against the PSAC East, though. In those games, he led the team in average, runs, triples, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, on base percentage and steals.
Rothschild led Millersville in wins with six, improving his career record to an impressive 19.7. He led the team with 55.2 innings pitched and held opponents to a .230 batting average. He also led the Marauders in strikeouts with 43 and complete games with four. After just three seasons with Millersville, he is three wins and five complete games short of school records.
Millersville makes its second-straight appearance in the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday against Mercyhurst. Fans can listen live to the action on MSBN or follow on live stats.
