Duffy Ends Millersville's PSAC Hopes

Box Score

Butler, Pa - For the second time in three days, Millersville could not solve Mercyhurst's starting pitcher. In Friday's PSAC Tournament elimination game, the Lakers' received a complete game from Brad Duffy and ended Millersville's season by a 4-0 score.

Millersville (25-23-1) faced No. 23 Mercyhurst (37-14) twice in the tournament and managed just one run in 18 innings. Duffy (6-1) stymied the Marauders, striking out 12 and allowing just four hits. Millersville ended Mercyhurst's 2011 season in the NCAA Atlantic Regional, but this marks the second-straight season that Mercyhurst eliminated Millersville from the conference tournament.

While Duffy was sharp, Tad Barton (5-3) struggled to find his control. He plunk three batters and allowed four runs on six hits in 3.1 innings.

Millersville had been outscored 41-30 in the first inning of games this season, and that opening frame continued to be a problem Friday. Mercyhurst's Kodi McMillen led off with a single, and Anthony Tomasone was plunked with a pitch. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a passed ball, and after Ethan Santora walked, Zac Blair singled in a pair, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead.

The Lakers added to the total in the third on a RBI single from Matt Adamczyk. The fourth run came on a Shane Latshaw single in the fourth.

Millersville stranded runners in five innings but was retired in order in each of the last three innings. Zach Stone recorded three of Millersville's four hits.

Senior Mike McMonagle pitched 4.1 innings of relief, allowing no runs on two hits. Fellow seniors Jason Long and Tyler Horst also made perfect relief appearances.

Millersville has appeared in the PSAC Tournament in three of the five seasons under Jon Shehan. This season marked the program's first back-to-back appearances since 1974-75.
