Shippensburg Ends Millersville’s Season in PSAC Quarterfinals

Box Score Shippensburg, Pa. - The Millersville women's volleyball fell to Shippensburg in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament Tuesday night. The Raiders swept the match in straight sets to defeat the Marauders for a third time this season.

Shippensburg (28-8) posted a hitting percentage of just .167 but spoiled the second consecutive PSAC Tournament appearance for Millersville (16-16) with set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-22.

The Raiders opened the first set on a 6-2 run before the Marauders answered with a 6-2 run of their own to tie it up at 8-8. Katie Lesinski sent home three kills in that stretch to fuel the offense. A 7-2 run by Shippensburg gave it a 15-10 advantage and forced Millersville head coach Brian Smith to use a timeout. After the breather, play was much more competitive but Shippensburg held on for a 25-19 set one victory.

There were five ties in the first 16 points scored of the second set. The hosts scored 10 of the next 14 points to take an 18-12 advantage followed by a timeout from the Marauders. The Raiders' lead was never smaller than five as they took the second set 25-17.

The third set opened much like the second with five ties in the first 14 points scored. A 9-3 run by the hosts pushed the margin to 17-13. Millersville was unable to put a run together towards the end and dropped the third set 25-22 and the match three sets to none.

Katie Lesinski led the offense for Millersville with 10 kills. Erika Smith tallied 12 assists and Jessica Franz chipped in 11. On defense, Brooklyn Smith dug out 10 attacks and Rebecca Roman blocked three attacks.

Millersville has made back-to-back PSAC Tournament appearances for the first time since 2004-05, and its 11-11 PSAC record is its best since going 6-4 against the PSAC East in 2005.
