Women's Tennis Knocked Out by No. 16 Cal in PSAC Semis

Box Score

Indiana, Pa. - The Marauder women's tennis team was hoping to win its second match in the PSAC Team Championships for the first time since 2001-02 Friday morning. Millersville, however, couldn't come away with a win in the PSAC Semifinals, dropping a 5-0 decision to No. 16 California (Pa.).

In doubles play, the only pairing that could take a set was the duo of Melissa Plowman and Kelsey Waite. Plowman and Waite dropped their matchup with Lucie Sipkova and Lucie Ray by a score of 8-1. The combos of Elizabeth Wagner/Tori Davis and Nicole Daacke/Alexandra Heller both fell by 8-0 scores in their matches, sending the teams to singles play with the Marauders trailing, 3-0.

Wagner and Daacke's matches finished first in singles, with each dropping twin 6-0, 6-0 losses to Alexandra Borgenhof and Lucie Rey, respectively. With the score at 5-0 and Cal's victory already in hand, the match was ended, sending the Vulcans through to the PSAC Team Championship with a 13-9 season record. The loss drops Millersville to 8-12 on the season.

With the loss, the Marauders drop into the Consolation Match for third place. That match starts Saturday at 1 p.m. Millersville will play the loser of the other PSAC Semifinal match between the PSAC East's top seed, Kutztown and the PSAC West's second seed, IUP.
