West Chester Ends Marauders' Tournament Run

Box Score Johnstown, Pa. - Millersville baseball swept West Chester in the regular season but early pitching problems doomed the Marauders' against the Golden Rams Friday evening. A 14-8 loss ended Millersville's PSAC Tournament run and put West Chester into the title game against East Stroudsburg.

West Chester (25-23-1) moved into the tournament's championship game for the second season in a row by roughing up starting Jim McDade and reliever Tanner Rahauser in the first two innings. McDade (3-5) gave up five runs on five hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Rahauser was tagged for four runs on three hits and two walks. West Chester raced to a 5-0 lead after two innings and a 9-2 lead after three. Millersville was never able to recover.

The Marauders (38-16) burned through 10 pitchers and the lone bright spot of the night was the one out recorded by senior Brian Black, who had missed all of the season after suffering an elbow injury on his first pitch of 2013 in February.

West Chester starter Matt McAllister (1-5) wasn't spectacular, allowing five runs on nine hits over seven innings. But he ate up innings, which was much-needed in a tournament of attrition.

Millersville's lineup produced 14 hits and was led by three hits from Evan King and Jeremy Musser and two hits from Zach Stone, Kurt Seiders and David Pine. Musser drove in three runs to cap a tournament in which he totaled six hits and six RBIs in four games.

The Marauders put together a valiant comeback late, scoring three runs in the final two innings and loading the bases in the ninth before WCU reliever Ron Scull escaped the jam.

The top three hitters in West Chester's lineup--Mike Raimo, Jack Provine and Justin Lamborn--all recorded three hits. West Chester totaled 16 in the game.

While the Marauders' conference tournament ended one win short of the championship game, they can now turn their attention to the NCAA Atlantic Regional. The winner of Saturday's game between West Chester and East Stroudsburg will join Winston-Salem State (CIAA) and Concord (WVIAC) as teams with automatic berths to the regional. Millersville, which was the No. 1-ranked team in Wednesday's regional ranking, figures to be one of three at-large teams to complete the six-team regional field. Play begins May 16 at a location yet to be announced. Fans can watch the NCAA selection show live on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. The show's link will be posted to millersvilleathletics.com when it is made available.
