Box Score Johnstown, Pa. - Tim Mayza threw a four-hit, nine-inning shutout, and the Millersville baseball team advanced in the PSAC Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Slippery Rock Thursday morning.
The game, originally scheduled for Wednesday evening, was pushed to Thursday at 8 a.m. because of rain. Mayza (10-3) surrendered only one hit over the first six innings and out-dueled Lou Trivino, who had not allowed a run in 22.2 consecutive innings prior to the game. Mayza struck out six and walked only one.
Millersville (37-14) received two hits and two RBIs from
Jeremy Musser, two hits from
Dan Johnson and
Kurt Seiders, and RBIs from
Jeff Heisey,
Tyler McDonald and
Tyler Orris.
Millersville broke through in the second when Heisey squeezed home Johnson. It wasn't until the seventh that the Marauders broke the game open. McDonald singled in Seiders, and Musser added a two-run single to push the lead to 4-0. Orris was plunked by a pitch with the bases loaded in the eighth to cap Millersville's scoring.
