Millersville, Pa. - After a dominating senior season for the Millersville men's basketball team, center Elijah Obade has signed a contract to play professional basketball team Astrum Levice.
Astrum Levice is located in Levice, Slovakia, just 75 miles from Budapest, Hungary and 139 miles from Vienna, Austria. The club competes in the Mattoni National Basketball League (NBL)Â Czech Republic. Obade leaves for Levice at the end of August, and the season begins at the beginning of October.
Joining Obade as a newcomer with Levice Astrum is fellow Division II star Brandon Lockhart, who was the starting point guard for national champion Drury in 2013.
The 6-9 Obade produced a history-making season in 2012-13. He set a single-season school record for blocked shots and totaled the most rebounds by a Millersville player since 1970. He ranked in the top 10 nationally in rebounds, blocks and double-doubles and was one of only two players to rank in the top 10 in all three categories.Â
Obade was Millersville's first-ever PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year and was also named All-PSAC East First Team. Obade joins recent Marauders Makal Stibbins and Charlie Parker as players to have played professionally in Europe.
