Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Marauders Start Strong, Finish Strong to Oust Lock Haven

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville men's basketball started quickly and built a 15-point lead but a lengthy shooting slump allowed visiting Lock Haven to take control of the game in the second half. But freshman Sam Light's corner 3-pointer off a broken play ended a streak of 15 consecutive Marauder misses from three and propelled Millersville to a 20-9 run over the final four minutes and a 74-67 PSAC Tournament win. The Marauders advance to play at East Stroudsburg on Tuesday, March 3 in the PSAC Quarterfinals.

Tavon Parker's three put Millersville (16-13) ahead 28-13 with 8:41 left in the first half. But after starting 4-of-5 from downtown, the Marauders proceeded to shoot 5-of-30 from the field and 0-of-13 with 12 turnovers of the next 23 minutes of basketball which extended into the second half. Lock Haven led by as many as seven in the second and Wali Hepburn put his team in front 58-52 with just over five minutes left. But over the next minute, Millersville ripped off a seven consecutive points that included Light's triple with 4:07 to play. Light's three cut Lock Haven's lead to 58-57. On the next possession, Eddie Callender blocked Hepburn's shot and raced down floor to score a go-ahead bucket in transition.

Lock Haven's Bootsie Walker, who led all players with 23 points, hit pair of foul shots to retake the lead, 60-59, but Shawn Williams hit a deep three from the top of the key for a two-point Marauder lead. Hepburn countered a tied the game with 2:08 to play. Williams, however, took over in the final two minutes. After Williams and Walker traded foul shots, Williams tossed an alley-oop pass to Anthony Moe who finished with a powerful, two-handed slam. Moe swatted a shot out of bounds seconds later and after a Hepburn miss from three, Williams hit two more foul shots. Moe, who made 9-of-10 from the line in the game, made six in a row in the final 30 seconds to put Lock Have out of reach.

After missing 15 consecutive threes and scoring just 26 points in nearly 25 minutes, Millersville outscored Lock Haven 20-9 over the final four minutes by hitting 4-of-5 shots from the field, 2-of-2 from three and 10-of-10 from the line.

Moe finished with 19 points and 18 rebounds for his fifth double-double in 14 games. He converted four dunks, including three in Millersville's opening salvo. He led five Marauders in double figures. Williams finished with 13 points after scoring just two in the second half. He sank 8-of-9 free throws for a team that buried 24-of-27. Light converted all six of his foul shots for 11 points. He also added four assists. Hepburn shot 18 foul shots in Lock Haven's win over the Marauders earlier this season, but the PSAC's leading scorer at 19.8 points per game shot only four on Saturday and missed three of them including a pair with 31 seconds left and his team trailing by just four. He then committed a foul and fouled out with 20 points , one assist and four turnovers.

Millersville improved to 44-7 all-time at home against Lock Haven and 17-1 in Pucillo Gymnasium. The Marauders, improving to 12-4 in PSAC Tournament home games, also won its seventh consecutive PSAC Tournament opening round game under Thompson.

Millersville and East Stroudsburg split during the regular season with both teams winning at home. Tip for the quarterfinal game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
