Millersville, Pa. – Millersville University Athletics announced today that former Misericordia coach Jennifer Probst has been named head softball coach. Probst, the two-time MAC Freedom Coach of the Year, brings to Millersville a championship-winning resume and link to the PSAC as a pitcher and graduate of Bloomsburg.
Â
"I am excited to have Jennifer joining our program and for the future of Marauder softball," said Brian Hazlett, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. "Jennifer's core philosophy fits well with our values here at Millersville. I was impressed by her athletes' record both in the classroom and on the field."  Â
Â
"I want to thank Millersville University for this opportunity and thank all Marauder softball fans for their past and future support," said Probst. "I love the PSAC, and I am excited for the challenge of leading a team in the conference."
Â
Probst is the program's sixth head coach since its start in 1979. She started her head coaching career at Misericordia in 2010 and compiled a 150-109 (.580) record with a MAC Freedom Championship in 2012. Her teams totaled three MAC Freedom championship game appearances and postseason berths in five of six seasons. Probst's teams were remarkably consistent, winning between 25 and 28 games five times. The 2012 club reached the NCAA Tournament. Probst was voted the MAC Freedom Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2012.
Â
Her teams' successes have been built on strong pitching staffs and lineups that get on base and hit home runs. Misericordia ranked in the top three of the MAC Freedom in team ERA in each of her six seasons and led the league with a 3.19 mark in 2015. Twice her team led the league in home runs, and it hit 38 in 45 games in 2015. Probst coached 23 All-MAC Freedom players including four first team pitchers, a pitcher of the year and rookie of the year award winner. Additionally, her players accounted for 50 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic awards. Her team's GPA has remained over 3.4 for six consecutive seasons.
"There is a lot of potential within the current program, and I am looking forward to getting to know the student-athletes," said Probst. "I'm also excited to get started recruiting, adding great talent to build a foundation for the future of the program."
Probst's duties at Misericordia extended beyond the field as she also served as the department's director of athletic operations and coached the volleyball team in 2013. Her coaching career started at York College in 2008. She served as pitching coach for two seasons, helping York to a 57-26 record, two Capital Athletic Conference Tournament berths and a national ranking.
Â
As a collegiate pitcher Probst played for three seasons at Bloomsburg under legendary head coach Jan Hutchinson, playing in three PSAC Tournaments and three NCAA Tournaments. As a fifth-year senior, Probst transferred to Mansfield and played for Edith Gallagher while completing her biology degree from Bloomsburg. She earned a master's degree in sports science from the U.S. Sports Academy in 2010. Probst's ties to the PSAC extend to her family as her younger sister, Jessie Probst, graduated after a four-year career pitching for Lock Haven.
