Men's soccer marches on to PSAC Semifinal

Gannon, Pennsylvania - Jeramey Robbins scored two goals as Millersville avenged its loss to Gannon and defeated the Golden Knights 2-0 Tuesday. The win advances Millersville to the PSAC Semifnals Friday when they will face West Chester at 1:30 p.m. This will mark the ninth time in the last 10 seasons that the men's soccer team has made it to the PSAC Semifinals.

Gannon would register the first three shots of the game but the Marauder defense held strong and would strike in the 22nd minute when Jeramey Robbins took a deflection and put it in the back of the net to give Millersville a 1-0 lead.

Neither team had a serious chance until the 31st when Chad Barrick floated towards the right side of the box and headed the ball just off the post. The Golden Knights would record the last three shots of the half, including another Barrick header but the Marauders went into the half with a one-goal lead.

It took just four minutes into the second for Millersville to double their lead as Devin Rediker played a ball into the box where Robbins fired it into the net from the six yard box. In the 60th minute, Barrick once again rose up for a header but pushed it wide.

After Declan Bingham sent a shot wide, Barrick placed the ball on frame but Darian McCauley was there for the save. In the 82nd. Nathan Delgado created space and ripped a shot that Jorge Hernandez saved.

With time dwindling, the Golden Knights tried to pull one back as Tyler Martin pushed a header just wide of the net in the 86th minute. Garrick nearly delivered in the 89th when his header hit the post for the second time and Gannon earned a corner kick but earned a foul on the set piece and would not threaten again.

Despite Gannon outshooting Millersville 14 to six, Darian McCauley collected four saves for his seventh shutout victory of the season. Millersville improves to 11-5-2 overall (6-4-2 PSAC) and is seeking to advance to the PSAC Championship Sunday.

Friday's matchup will take place in Erie, Pennsylvia as Mercyhurst earned the number one overall seed. The Lakers, who had a first-round bye, will face Seton Hill as the Griffins defeated California (Pa.) 4-0 Tuesday. If Millersville defeats West Chester on Friday, they will play the winner of Mercyhurst-Seton Hill Sunday for the championship.
