Quakertown, Pa. – The Millersville softball team used timely hitting and relied on senior
Brianna Andraos who tossed a four-hitter to drop nationally ranked West Chester 3-2 in an elimination game of the 2016 PSAC Tournament on Thursday morning.
Â
The No. 12 ranked Golden Rams broke a scoreless tie in the top of the second when Monica Twardowski scored an unearned run on a single off of the bat of Madison Kelly.
Â
Millersville (28-19) would respond in the bottom half of the inning as
Maria Spinosa drew a five-pitch walk and
Megan McCurdy stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run homer to right center field to give the Marauders a 2-1 lead. The homerun was the third of the season for McCurdy.
Â
West Chester (47-7) tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, plating home another unearned run off of Andraos. The Marauders broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the inning.
Heather Lutz leadoff with a single down the right field line and showed off her wheels scoring on a
Kelsey Campbell double.
Â
Andraos was masterful within the pitching circle defeating West Chester for the third time this season enroute to her 17
th win. The Malvern, Pa., native worked out of a no-out bases loaded jam in the fifth inning recording two of her seven strikeouts within the frame. Andraos allowed a single in the sixth, before retiring the final five batters of the game and was aided by an acrobatic catch by center fielder
Megan Hallock in the top of the seventh.
Â
Amanda Houck (16-4) suffered the loss inside the circle for the Rams. She allowed three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out eight in six innings of work.
Â
The Marauders currently in the loser's bracket were slated to play Lock Haven at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, but the game was postponed until Friday due to constant rain from Veterans Park. First pitch against the Bald Eagles is slated for 10 a.m. and Millersville Athletics will have a live audio broadcast via the Mixlr app.
