Indiana, Pa. - After reaching the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 2001, Millersville's women's lacrosse season came to an end Saturday as it fell on the road to Indiana (Pa.) by a score of 14-10. Seven different Marauders scored goals for Millersville as
Bridget Hufnagel,
Abby Mack and Callie Cavanaugh each recorded two apiece. Hufnagel added three assists to finish the season with 81 points and take sole possession of first place for points in a single season. Mack added another assist to finish with 66 for her career, which is five more than second place
Hannah Vogel.
The Marauders came out strong in the first half as
Renee Landis scored to put Millersville up 1-0 less than a minute and a half into the game. Millersville looked poised to control the game, scoring four more and taking a 5-0 lead just 11 minutes into the first half. The Crimson Hawks would battle back, however, scoring eight in a row to take an 8-5 lead before Millersville finally put one in with 16 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to two.
IUP looked to extend its lead as the second half started, scoring the first two goals before Hufnagel found the back of the net to make the score 10-7 in favor of the Crimson Hawks. With momentum on its side, Millersville scored two more to cut the deficit to just one goal with around 13 minutes to play. IUP would answer once again, scoring three in a row and take control of the game. The two sides would trade late goals before Indiana walked away with a 14-10 victory.
Bryana Weston-Wyatt recorded 12 saves in the game and finished her freshman season with 159.
IUP improves its record to 13-5 overall going 10-2 in PSAC play and will advance to the tournament semifinals. Millersville finished its 2016 campaign with an 11-7 record, going 7-5 in conference play. In just her fifth season at the helm, head coach
Mia Hall guided the Marauders to the most wins the program has had since 1990.
