Leinbach, Frangakis and Flickinger punch Millersville's ticket to the PSAC Semifinals

Millersville, Pa. -- Freshman Nicholas Leinbach, senior Marcus Frangakis and junior Chase Flickinger all netted goals during Millersville's 3-0 rout of Seton Hill during Tuesday night's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Quarterfinal match up. The Marauders will travel to West Chester, Pa. for a rematch with Gannon in the PSAC Semifinals.

Determined not to even chance dropping their second straight result at home in four days, Millersville attacked Seton Hill's defense the moment the opening whistle blew. After multiple chances on goal in the opening minutes of the first half, Leinbach picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season and finally break the stalemate in the 29th minute. A crossed in ball from the right found junior Drew McMenamin who headed the ball to junior Dylan Fogerty. The midfielder saw Leinbach streaking from right to left in the box and played it to him. Keeper Austin Iddon was not able to change direction fast enough and Leinbach easily tapped the ball in the back of the net.

Millersville followed up their aggressive first half with an equally aggressive second half start. Frangakis doubled Millersville's lead in the 50th minute after scoring with a magisterial shot from long range. Freshman McClain Smith played a ball to Frangakis up the midfield who turned on the ball and launched an arching shot from outside the box that dipped just past Iddon's finger tips.

The attendees at Pucillo Field watched Flickinger threaten all night and pepper Iddon with five shots during the first and early second half and knew the midfielder would eventually breakthrough. Flickinger's chance came in the 65th minute when freshman Matteo Adiletta dribbled around defenders until frustration took over, and they fouled Adiletta on the edge of the penalty area earning a free kick. On Flickinger's free kick approach, the Seton Hill wall of defenders jumped in anticipation to block the shot, but Flickinger fired off a low shot that glided under their feet and past the unsuspecting Iddon.

Before Leinbach's go-ahead goal in the first half, the Marauders looked to score much sooner.

Millersville's first scoring opportunity in the sixth minute nearly yielded a goal. Freshman Nathan Maynard blasted a shot that bounced off the hand's of Iddon, and Flickinger collected the rebound and shot an attempt that was also saved and knocked out of bounds. Flickinger quickly played a corner kick into the box and junior Kyle Finsterbush's header required Iddon's third save in under a minute.

Millersville had two more potential scoring opportunities to earn the go-ahead goal but they were snatched away by a referee's decision. Frangakis beat his defender one-on-one in the box and his defender made a questionable tackle from behind that ended with the ball out of bounds. The referee decided a penalty kick was unnecessary despite the rash play. Flickinger appeared to break the stalemate in the 19th minute as he battled with his defender in front of the box and shot his attempt past Iddon. However, the referee and his side judge convened for over a minute before deciding Flickinger's contact with his defender was illegal.

After the early second half flurry of goals, the Marauders parked the figurative bus and stifled virtually every Seton Hill attempt to comeback. Millersville did their best to avoid rash tackles that could have lead to injury while also avoiding situations that could have drawn the referees' ire and a booking. Sophomore keeper Darian McCauley was only called into action twice and easily saved both of Seton Hill's attempts on goal. McCauley earned his eighth clean sheet of the season.

With the victory in the quarterfinals, Millersville booked its third straight trip to the PSAC Semifinals. The Marauders are tasked with playing second seeded Gannon University on Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. in West Chester, Pa. only six days after playing the Golden Knights previously. Millersville will look to avenge its disappointing 4-2 loss at Pucillo Field on Oct. 28. A win against the Golden Knights would also give the Marauders their third straight PSAC Championship appearance.
