No. 17 Millersville falls to Gannon 2-0 in the PSAC Semifinals

West Chester, Pa. -- No. 17 Millersville's conference season ended in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Semifinals after Millersville fell to Gannon 2-0 Friday afternoon.

The Marauders were tasked with playing from behind six minutes into the game after Gannon's Mathias Krigbaum netted the first goal of the game. After the goal, the Golden Knights tightened up their formation to make it more difficult for Millersville to equalize. Senior Marcus Frangakis tested Gannon's Jorge Hernandez in the 19th minute, but Hernandez made the save. The Marauders continued to probe the Gannon defense, but the Golden Knights suppressed Millersville's scoring opportunities for the rest of the first half.

Millersville came out of halftime more aggressive and determined to earn the equalizer. Junior Chase Flickinger, senior Ryan Phelps, and junior Jacob Gosselin all put shots on target in the opening 11 minutes, but Hernandez prevented the tying goal. Junior Kyle Finsterbush stepped up and delivered another shot on goal in the 68th minute which kept the pressure on the keeper. A Millersville foul that could have went either way at the top of the Millersville box yielded a free kick for Gannon. Srdjan Dujokic converted his free kick in the back of the net to double Gannon's lead.

Gannon tightened their formation again and prevented Millersville's offense from making a comeback.

The Marauders finished the game with eight shots and seven of them on goal while also earning seven corners. Offensive chances came at a premium during the game and Millersville could not break through. The Millersville defense limited the Golden Knights to only three shots on goal on seven shots while conceding five corners. Ultimately, the teams played a contentious match and they combined for 33 fouls.

Millersville fall to 13-5-1 on the season and finish its 2017 PSAC campaign with an 8-4 record. The Marauders send off their seniors with three straight PSAC semifinals appearances along with the PSAC Championship appearances in the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Now, the Marauders wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. to find out if they will play in the NCAA Regional tournament. Millersville is looking to play in the Atlantic Regional for the first time since 2015.
