OVERVIEW
• The Millersville Marauders are back in the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the fifth consecutive season and for the sixth time since 2011. That active streak of consecutive regional appearances is second only to Seton Hill, which has made each regional tournament since 2010. The Marauders won the regional in 2016 and have played in three consecutive regional championship games. No team has repeated as Atlantic Regional champ since Kutztown in 2001 and 2002. A PSAC team has won 16 of the last 17 regional titles while Millersville is the only team with two regional titles since 2010. Each of the last six regional champs are represented in this year's field: Millersville (2016, 2011), Mercyhurst (2015), Seton Hill (2014), Shippensburg (2013) and West Chester (2012). Shepherd has qualified for the regional in each of the last two seasons and three times since 2014. Winston-Salem State has played in six of the last seven regional tournaments.
BIG GAME EXPERIENCE
• Six of Millersville's regular position players started all three of last season's regional games. Senior Chas McCormick was named the Atlantic Regional Most Outstanding Player in 2016 after going 5-for-8 with two hits and two steals in the final two wins. He has started 13 regional games. Fellow seniors David Summerfield (11), Mitch Stoltzfus (8) and Dan Neff (8) have combined for 27 regional starts. The only member of the pitching staff with previous starting experience in a regional is Cordell Shannon, who beat Mercyhurst in 2016 by allowing one run on five hits over six innings.
FAMILIAR FOES
• The Marauders are very familiar with the rest of the Atlantic Region field, having matched up against Shepherd, Shippensburg, West Chester and Winston-Salem State already this season. Millersville swept Winston-Salem State in the opening weekend of the season and took three of four against Shepherd, although two of those games were decided by just one run. Millersville lost three out of four to West Chester, allowing 35 runs in the series. The lone win came from freshman Tyler Yankosky, who gave up just two hits over seven innings and came within one out of a no-hitter. Shippensburg took three of four from Millersville in the final weekend of the regular season, knocking the Marauders out of PSAC Tournament contention. Millersville scored just six total runs in that series. The Marauders lost 2-1 on a walk-off hit in game one. The win came via a 1-0 score when Shannon pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits.
REGIONAL HISTORY
• This is the eighth regional appearance all-time for Millersville. The Marauders have won the regional three times and have won at least two games in each of the previous seven appearances. Millersville and Shippensburg have met just one other time in the regional. That came in game two of the 2013 edition with Shippensburg beating Chris Murphy by a 4-1 score. Millersville is 5-1 all-time against top-seeded Mercyhurst in regional play, 0-1 against West Chester (5-0, 2015), 3-3 against Seton Hill and 1-0 against Winston-Salem State (6-5, 2015).
RUN DIFFERENTIAL
• Among PSAC teams, Millersville finished the regular season ranked 10th in average, ninth in runs scored but third in runs allowed, third in ERA and second in batting average against. Still, the 4.04 runs allowed per game are the most allowed by a Millersville club since 2010. Millersville has outscored its opponents 296-202 for a +94 run differential. Last season Millersville's run differential was +291. The +94 differential is the lowest by a Millersville team since 2012.
BY THE NUMBERS
• The key to success for Millersville is scoring early and scoring at least six runs. The Marauders are 22-6 this season when scoring first and 20-1 when scoring at least six runs. The Marauders have played 13 games decided by one run and are 7-6 in those games. But if the Marauders lead late, consider the game over. Millersville is 25-0 when it holds the lead after six innings. Closer Mike Mock is 4-1 with five saves and leads the PSAC in batting average against .129.
WITHIN REACH
• Already the owner of Millersville career records for hits, runs and RBIs, Chas McCormick is just three hits shy of tying the PSAC's all-time record. McCormick is one of just three players in the league's history to total 301 hits. West Chester's Matt Cotellese set the mark at 304 in 226 career games. McCormick has played 220 games and owns a career .373 batting average. He is the only player in PSAC history to rank in the top 10 in hits, runs, RBIs and stolen bases.
FRESHMEN OF THE YEAR
• Prior to 2016 Millersville had never had a pitcher win the PSAC East Freshman of the Year Award, and now the program has produced back-to-back winners. Tyler Yankosky followed in Cordell Shannon's footsteps by winning the 2017 award. Yankosky was at his best against the PSAC East. He went 3-1 with a 4.15 ERA and .200 batting average against.
STRONG FINISH
• After a rough start to the season, Cordell Shannon has seemingly found his rhythm. He has lasted at least six innings in each of his last five starts after failing to reach the sixth in seven of his first eight starts. He has tossed back-to-back complete games, allowing just seven hits and one run in those two starts. Over his last four games, Shannon has three complete games, a 2.77 ERA and .191 batting average against.
WILLIAMS WALKS
• Junior Ted Williams leads the PSAC in walks with 34, and his .451 on base percentage is a team high. Williams set the program's single-season record for walks in 2016 and with 87 in his career, he is just 30 walks shy of Ernest McCoy's record which has stood since 1988.
MAKING THE PLAYS
• True freshman Eric Callahan has started the team's last 28 games at shortstop, and over his last 24 games, he's fielded an impressive .976, committing just two errors in 84 chances. It's a dramatic turn after he committed 11 errors in the first 14 games of the season. Callahan also ranks fourth on the team in RBIs in that span with 14.
SOLIDIFYING THE ROTATION
• Sophomore Eli Nabholz may be in his first season with the Marauders but he has been the team's most reliable starter. He led the PSAC in innings pitched (73 1/3) and strikeouts (90) while posting a .236 batting average against and 2.82 ERA. Nabholz also leads the team in complete games with six and wins with seven. His consistency has been outstanding. He's pitched at least five innings in 10 of his 12 starts, and has given up three of fewer earned runs in 11 of 12. Nabholz won the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week award three times and threw a no-hitter against Mansfield on April 1. He struck out double-digit batters three times with a season-high of 12 on two occasions.
