Millersville, Pa. -- The Millersville Marauders earned a trip to the PSAC Quarterfinals after defeating the Mansfield Mountaineers 51-38 in Millersville's first home playoff game in two years.
The Marauders won the season series tiebreaker after both teams won their home game against each other in the regular season. The match up played similarly to the last time Millersville hosted Mansfield as the Marauders held the Mounties to under 50 points and put the game out of reach with crafty guard play. Mansfield was without its leading scorer Brielle Kelly. The PSAC's third-leading scorer suffered an injury earlier in the season that held her out of Mansfield's first playoff game in 11 years. However, Millersville was without senior
Alayah Hall for the majority of the game. Millersville's leading scorer played limited minutes off the bench as she recovered from an illness.
The Marauders leaned on the scoring efforts of a committee to make up for the loss of Hall's 17.1 points per game.
Freshman
Lauren Lister, the reigning PSAC Freshman of the Week, led the Marauders with 12 points on 40 percent shooting. The guard helped generate offense with two assists including a fast break bounce pass to redshirt junior
Kendra Bamberger who drained a late layup to effectively end Mansfield's comeback opportunity.
Redshirt junior
Janelle Robinson scored 11 points on 45 percent shooting. Robinson was able to contort her body around the Mansfield front court to earn tough points in the paint. She played her usual brand of scrappy basketball as she snagged seven rebounds despite often being the shortest player on the court.
Sophomore
Courtney Dimoff scored Millersville's only three pointers as she got back to her scoring ways and reached double figures for the first time since late January. Dimoff earned critical extra possessions for Millersville as she tied for the lead on the team with two steals while also snagging three rebounds.
Sophomore
Savanna Krusinsky, in only her second start of the season, played 34 minutes on the court. Krusinsky was critical in preventing additional Mansfield opportunities. She snagged a career-high 12 rebounds while also registering one block.Â
Despite Mansfield's size advantage, Millersville stood tall as they out-rebounded Mansfield for the first time this season. The Marauders grabbed 48 boards to the Mountaineers' 40. Millersville's presence in the front court earned 24 points in the paint while Mansfield only mustered eight points in the paint. Millersville's tenacity added to Mansfield's offensive woes as the Mountaineers turned the ball over 15 times and the Marauders scored 12 points off those turnovers.
Millersville heads back to East Stroudsburg for its second match up with the Warriors in five days on Feb. 28. The Marauders will face the Warriors in the PSAC Quarterfinals after sweeping the Warriors in the regular season.Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.Â
