Millersville, Pa. - Tad Barton has yet to wear a Millersville baseball jersey, but the Muhlenberg right-handed pitcher and Marauder signee was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 49th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft this week.
While being selected as a senior in high school is an outstanding achievement, Barton has already stated that he will forgo the option to sign a pro contract and will attend Millersville in the fall to play baseball for Coach
Jon Shehan.
Barton was part of a 10-member recruiting class that signed National Letters of Intent in the fall of 2009. He continued to pile up impressive numbers as a senior, posting a 7-2 record with four complete games, two shutouts, one save and a 1.37 ERA. He also struck out 77 and walked just 25 in 61 1/3 innings. Opponents managed to hit .193 against him.
Barton helped Muhlenberg to a 14-8 record this year and earned the winning decision in the first round of the District III Class AAA playoffs.
